A Level Economics (9708) · Income and Wealth Distribution, Poverty
A person could have high wealth but relatively low income if, for example, they:
- Have no assets at all and are currently employed
- Earn a very high salary but own no assets whatsoever
- Own valuable property or assets but are retired and earn little current income
- Have negative wealth and negative income simultaneously
Someone who owns valuable property or other assets, but is retired or between jobs, may hold substantial wealth while currently earning little or no income.
A Level Economics (9708) · Balance of Payments and Exchange Rates
The 'trade in goods' component of the current account records:
- The value of physical, tangible goods exported and imported
- Only the value of investment income received from abroad
- The value of services, such as tourism and banking, exported and imported
- Only government spending on foreign aid
This component records the value of physical, tangible goods exported and imported, such as cars, food, or machinery.
A Level Economics (9708) · Labour Market: Advanced (Monopsony, Trade Unions, Wage Differentials)
Because a monopsonist is the sole (or dominant) buyer of labour, the labour supply curve it faces is:
- Identical to a perfectly competitive firm's labour supply curve
- A perfectly vertical curve, unrelated to the wage offered
- A perfectly horizontal curve at a single, fixed wage
- The upward-sloping market supply curve of labour, rather than a flat wage-taking curve
Since the monopsonist faces the entire market supply of labour to that occupation, the labour supply curve it faces is the upward-sloping market supply curve, rather than a flat curve at a fixed wage.
