AP Chemistry · Equilibrium
A very large equilibrium constant (K >> 1) indicates that at equilibrium:
- the reaction has not started
- products are favored
- the reaction is very slow
- reactants are favored
A large K means the equilibrium mixture is mostly products.
AP Chemistry · Compound Structure and Properties
The H–O–H bond angle in water (about 104.5°) is smaller than 109.5° because:
- lone pairs repel bonding pairs more strongly than bonding pairs repel each other
- hydrogen atoms repel each other strongly
- the O–H bond is nonpolar
- oxygen has no lone pairs
Greater lone-pair repulsion compresses the bond angle.
AP Chemistry · Thermochemistry
Two objects have the same mass and initial temperature, but object A has a higher specific heat. When the same amount of heat is added to both:
- both show the same temperature increase
- object A shows the larger temperature increase
- object A shows the smaller temperature increase
- neither temperature changes
ΔT = q/(mc), so a larger c gives a smaller ΔT.
