SAT Math · Linear Inequalities
Which inequality is equivalent to -6x - 5 < 1?
Subtract -5 from both sides: -6x < 6. Divide both sides by -6. Since we divide by a negative number, the inequality sign flips. This gives x > -1.
SAT Math · Linear Equations in Two Variables
A savings account balance S, in dollars, after w weeks is S = 150 + 25w. What does the number 25 represent in this equation?
- The total after 25 weeks
- The amount that increases with each additional week
- The starting amount before any weeks pass
- The number of weeks
The coefficient of the variable is the rate of change. Here 25 is the amount added for each additional week.
SAT Math · Linear Equations in One Variable
In the equation 4(x + 3) = 4x + k, k is a constant. For what value of k does the equation have infinitely many solutions?
Expand the left side: 4x + 12. The two sides are identical only when k = 12, and then every x is a solution.
